PROJECT: PSG
A 2D Beat-Em-Up borrowing mechanical designs and features from more modern 3D Beat-Em-Ups. Video Didn’t Kill The Radio Star!

A 2D Beat-Em-Up, inspired by both games of the era for the genre, such as Double Dragon or Streets of Rage, but also an attempt to modernize the design and borrow from more action-packed 3D games, such as Bayonetta or Devil May Cry.

This was a short 2-week crunch project for the June 12th 2026 Circuit Stream Game Development Pitch Day. In order to provide the vision and feel I wanted for the project, much about 2D and 3D action games were researched and experimented with, both from technical perspective and consumer based ones, for every detailed mechanic and movement implemented into the visual demo.

Designs inspired and borrowed from 3D games were used with the purpose to make the game more accessible, fluid and deterministic. This resulted in the addition of directional inputs taken into account in the state machines, adjustable animation events, instantly swappable characters with separately tracked resources, and more. While the project was created for the purposes of a presentation demo, over time it will be fleshed out further to a completed game.
